Stuck in a Rock: Fossil Fuel Industry in Craigleith

Andrea Wilson, Curator of the Craigleith Heritage Depot, will give us a tour and talk about the Shale Oil Works which operated from 1859 to 1863.

Bring your hiking shoes as we walk the Georgian Trail from the museum to the Shale Oil site. This was Ontario's Heritage earliest fossil fuel production site and was a large facility for a very short time.

We will start in the museum gallery looking at artifacts from the collection.

A walking tour from the museum will highlight what it was like at the time along the bay. Then a brief stop to see the site and the provincial plaque. A walk back to the museum with a stop at Shale Rock cafe where you can purchase a refreshment (shale ice cream)

Location: Craigleith Heritage Depot, Craighleith, Ontario. Off Highway 26 past Thornbury.

All are Welcome to attend
