During World War II, Polish soldiers came to Owen Sound for training.  Several years ago at our Annual Meeting, our guest speaker spoke about the time they spent in Owen Sound. We also learned about the Polish Tree.

The Consul General of Poland in Toronto wishes to show his appreciation for the hospitality offered in our City to these men by presenting a plaque. You are welcome to attend the short presentation being held Saturday, November 24, 2018, in Owen Sound in Queen's Park, First Avenue West. It is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

The Consul General of Poland in Toronto, will present the plaque to express his gratitude to the City of Owen Sound for its generous hospitality to the Polish officers, instructors, airmen, sailors, and soldiers who came to Canada during World War II and were trained in Kosciuszko Camp in Owen Sound.

The Consul General will lay his wreath and welcome others who wish to join him in remembering family or, friends who fought for Poland and world freedom. 

 Following the unveiling ceremony, the Consul General would be delighted to meet you at lunch at the Golden Buffet on 10th Street, West, Owen Sound. Lunch is approximately $20 per person. Please RSVP to Paula Niall at 519-372-0225 before November 21 to ensure enough seating is available.

 Gabriola & Geoff Jennen will be our hosts. We will meet in the large Honey House with its display of antique honey pails, etc. There will also be an opportunity to visit the Victorian house. The house was built by James Witherspoon with bricks that were brought from Owen Sound by horse and sled. He purchased the property in 1877. The land was taken from the crown in 1862 by Robert Beaty. Seasoned beekeepers, Gabriela Berger and Geoffrey Jennen, operate Georgian Bay Honey just outside of Owen Sound. Both have honey in their blood. Gabriela, a Swiss native, comes from a line of three generations of beekeepers and Geoffrey, who kept bees with his father as a hobby when young, from two generations.
