We had a perfect day for our visit to the Welbeck Sawmill. The sun was shining but it was not too hot. After gathering at the store where Bonnie gave some background information, many walked down to the Shingle mill. This area was settled by Irish and they were attracted to the area because of the availability of water for their mills.
Joe shared information about the history and showed us how shingles are made. It is fascinating to realize that there is almost no waste in the production as parts of the log not used for the making of shingles has a purpose, such as fire kindling.
We enjoyed refreshments and had our short business meeting on the grounds by the mill.
The next two meetings are not on the third Wednesday of the month.
July - Friday evening at 5 potluck
August - Saturday afternoon
Check the website and the blog for specific details for each of the upcoming meetings.
