March 18 meeting - Historical Society Hears about Place Names

"Place Names in Grey County" - what do they mean?

Janet Iles gave an interesting and informative PowerPoint presentation at the Grey County Historical Society meeting March 18 at Grey Roots.

Names of towns and villages were illustrated and details as to origin, whether cultural, geographic, historical or personal were vividly described and a dialogue between audience members and Iles made it all the more interesting.

Information provided by Joyce Robinson

A couple of questions from the talk -- What place was once known as Hungry Hollow?
What place was once known as Donnybrook?

If you know the answer, please submit your answer in the comments. If you know why they were given these names, we'd appreciate knowing that as that information has not been found yet.
