Subscribing to this Blog

If you are new to reading blogs, you may wonder how do you know when new material is posted. There are several ways you can do this.

1. You could bookmark the site in your favorites and keep checking back to see if anything new has been added. This way is fine if you regularly read only one or two blogs.

2. If you have Internet Explorer, you can have feeds appear in your browser. This is fine if you use only one computer. [see instructions below]

3. Subscribe in a feed reader. This means only one place to check if you read several or many blogs. [see instructions below]

4. If you are on Facebook, use the application Networked Blogs. The Grey County Historical Society is listed there.

How do you know if a website can be tracked with a feed reader? Look on your toolbar for the small RSS [Real simple syndication] feed icon. When it is grey, it isn't available for subscriptions. (free) When it is orange, you can subscribe to the web site.

Below are some instructions on how to subscribe to this blog. If you already have a blog reader, use the subscribe button on the right panel of the blog.

Click on the arrow to advance the slide show. I'd appreciate knowing if you found these instructions helpful.

Grey County Historical Society - goes Web 2.0

The Grey County Historical Society enters the world of the Internet with this blog. Blogs are part of the interactive, social portion of the Internet (web 2.0). Blogs are web pages but unlike web sites that are often static, blogs are updated regularly and encourage conversation between the writer and the reader.

To be alerted to updates on the blog, you will want to subscribe to the site. If you are new to the world of blogs, you will wonder how to do this. Information about how to do this will appear in a separate article.

Watch this blog for updated information on what is happening in the society. Meeting notices, reviews of meetings, photographs and the occasional article will appear here.

We hope that you take the time to read and comment on what you read. Did you attend the meeting that is reviewed? What did you learn that you didn't know before?

The blog will be linked to the Society's web site, which will appear soon. Watch for the announcement. The web pages will provide more information about the organization.
