42nd Annual Dinner - Guest speaker - Andrew Armitage

Andrew Armitage, former chief librarian at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, researcher, journalist, author, canoeist, nature lover and Georgian Bay Explorer was the guest speaker at our 42nd Annual Dinner. Just over 100 members and guests thoroughly enjoyed his presentation on the history of his property near Annan, Ontario.

His illustrated took us back to the early settlement of Northern Sydenham Township and he traced the ownership of his plot of land up to present day. William Grierson purchased this plot of land in the 1840s. In 1865, Thomas Veitch and his wife Margaret purchased the land. This property remained in the family for 110 years earning the right to be called a "century farm". Andrew purchased the property in 1971.

A musical ensemble of Lorraine Brown, Aly Boltman and Leon Rosenbaum added to the enjoyment of the evening with two "Grey County" songs.
